A man who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.
"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the police about his suspicions.
She stated the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
Mrs Prior explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities again.
She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
